The world's oceans contain more than 20 million tons of gold dissolved in seawater.
While this amount is incredibly large, the concentration of gold in seawater is only about 13 billionths of a gram per liter, which makes it challenging to extract economically.
Nonetheless, research continues on finding more efficient methods for extracting gold from seawater.
