As with all prime ministerial trips, Canadian taxpayers cover the costs of the PM's private jet and security

As with all prime ministerial trips, Canadian taxpayers cover the costs of the prime minister’s private jet and security, which often amount to several tens of thousands of dollars per trip.

Justin Trudeau himself pays only the equivalent of a commercial flight ticket, as stipulated by Canadian government policy.

For instance, during a 2023 vacation in Jamaica, the total cost of the trip, including the use of a Royal Canadian Air Force Challenger jet and accompanying security personnel, was estimated to be $160,000 CAD, according to government records.

Trudeau reimbursed approximately $5,000 CAD, the price of business-class tickets for him and his family.

This practice has drawn criticism from some taxpayers, who argue that such personal trips should not heavily rely on public funds, while others see it as a necessary expense to ensure the safety and availability of the prime minister.
